Bad Time at Super 8 Motel

The following letter describes the events at the Super 8 Motel in Perryville, Missouri. It was written to let potential travelers know the kind of treatment they can expect if they stay at said motel.

To my family members in Perryville and to families or organizations in Perryville who might have visitors coming to town. If your visitors require a motel, please do not refer them to the Super 8 Motel. The following tale of our unfortunate experience will explain why I ask that.

On April 13, 2012 we had the misfortune of staying at the Super 8 Motel in Perryville, Missouri. Our party had driven all day for a funeral the next day, so a good night’s rest was important to us. Alas, it was not to be. We were given first floor rooms. Directly above us the motel put a group in town for a soccer event. At about 7 in the evening the soccer people began a raucous party complete with stomping and pounding on the floor. Their partying made sleep impossible. We complained to the desk clerk who explained that she could do nothing until 10 PM. Near the check-in counter there is a sign that says “if a guest creates a disturbance they will be told to leave and will not receive a refund.” Obviously the sign is there for show and means absolutely nothing. The clerk never offered to move us to a quieter room nor did they offer to move the noisemakers to another room. The desk clerk did absolutely nothing to address the problem and refused to even say something to the noisemakers until after 10 PM.

At 10 PM promptly we again went to the check-in counter to complain about the noise that by then had been going on for a full 3 hours. The noise stopped – for a few minutes only. It began again as soon the offenders became secure in the knowledge that the Super 8 clerk was not going to do anything about it. The noise continued intermittently from 10 PM until the wee hours of the morning.

By its actions (or rather – by its lack of actions) this sad excuse for a motel announced to the world that if you stay with them you have absolutely no assurance of anything even remotely resembling a good night’s rest. If you are able to sleep undisturbed in the Super 8 Motel it will be because you are lucky – not because the motel staff did anything to assure your comfort. We were there and we know they do nothing.

They did nothing for us!       Do you think your visitors will be treated any better?

To insure that as many people as possible learn of our experience this letter will be sent to all the members of our family in the hope that they will pass it on to as many of their friends and acquaintances a possible. It will be sent to as many Perryville businesses and organizations as possible. It will also be posted on my personal web site where 100,000 people per year will have the opportunity to read it.
