Whores and Pimps..

Surely you've heard the optimistic "too bad they can't both lose" line before.  We're nothing if not optimists, so in keeping with this sentiment, look on the bright side and be thankful they both can't win.

President Obama is a known quantity, so there's no point in talking about his record.  Everyone knows what he stands for.

Yet, as one columnist correctly observed, the people are another matter altogether, as this quote from the Prague newspaper Prager Zeitungon so eloquently illustrates:

The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president.

The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their President.

Romney, on the other hand, is a bit more opaque. His record takes a bit more digging, a little more effort to turn up...

But true to politician form, he's got no moral compass and no core beliefs. You see, these are all up for the highest bidder.

The fact is Romney put in place a "scary-looking weapons" ban (those who know nothing about guns call these "assault weapons") in Massachusetts when he was governor in 2004, and backed the Brady law, which required a five-day waiting period for gun purchases.

Running against Ted Kennedy for the Senate in 1994, he declared, "I don't line up with the NRA" on gun control.

Rather than call him out on his record, the NRA has now endorsed Romney, which goes to show you just how corrupting influence-peddling is.

Anyone who could fog a mirror knew the Brady Law was idiotic at best, and potentially deadly to those in need of protection from imminent harm.

Even one of the nation's leading anti-gun medical publications, the Journal of the American Medical Association, agreed the Brady registration law has failed to reduce murder rates.

In August 2000, JAMA reported that states implementing waiting periods and background checks did "not [experience] reductions in homicide rates or overall suicide rates."

In spite of overwhelming evidence pointing to the destructive and counterproductive dangers of these policies, Romney did what was politically expedient at the time, regardless of what was right.

You see, this is a great example of the corrupting nature of politics.

The NRA's endorsement of Romney is like the Catholic Church's endorsement of Satan because, after all, he has been attending mass and started receiving Communion...

It's an insult.

Am I the only one who finds this odd?

Am I the only one who thinks this type of mushy relativism is what will doom us?

I've often wondered, after the second amendment is totally dismantled, which would be next. My guess is the first.

And this brings me to ask the question: If you had to get government consent, if you had to obtain a permit, to exercise your first amendment rights, would you do it?

Would you stand for it .. yes or no?

In my mind, there's no wiggle room here. None.

Well, you're not being realistic!" is the retort shot back at me by lifelong blue or red political automatons.

My guy is way better than the other guy..."

Which brings us back to the lesser of two evils argument, another one I just don't understand.

Would you vote for the lesser of two pedophiles to be school principal?

If there's one thing, one idea, one inviolable precept, one unfailing moral ideal in this world can it not be one's most basic human rights?

A Final Thing to Consider

As the very foundations of freedom are crumbling, we must remember that these freedoms come not from a document or a Constitution...

They exist by virtue of one's birth.

No government, any government, can convey these rights. They can either be respected and protected, or usurped and destroyed.

I'd encourage everyone to think deeply about these things at all times, and especially in the next several days...

I'm sure these things were on Ayn Rand's mind when she penned these words:

When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion, when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing, when you see money flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors, when you see that men get richer by graft and pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you, when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice, you may know that your society is doomed.

Happy fifth of November...
