Mueller Was Head of FBI When Clinton-Russian Collusion Happened

Before Tuesday, the phrase “Russian collusion” was generally associated with President Donald Trump and the febrile efforts to prove that he conspired to obtain the Kremlin’s help in winning the election because of a meeting with a strange Russian lawyer, or Russia buying $100,000 in social media ads … or something.. It didn’t add up to much, but it was like a security blanket for the left, who keep on hoping special counsel Robert Mueller will uncover something that will get Trump out of office.

Then, on Tuesday, The Hill published a story that revealed the FBI knew about attempts by Russian nuclear industry officials to bribe their way into controlling a large part of the uranium mining industry in the United States before a controversial 2010 deal was approved that sold off a majority of Canadian mining company Uranium One to the state-owned Russian company Rosatom. The deal gave Russia control of 20 percent of American uranium reserves.

“Federal agents used a confidential U.S. witness working inside the Russian nuclear industry to gather extensive financial records, make secret recordings and intercept emails as early as 2009 that showed Moscow had compromised an American uranium trucking firm with bribes and kickbacks in violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, FBI and court documents show,” The Hill reported.  “The racketeering scheme was conducted ‘with the consent of higher level officials’ in Russia who ‘shared the proceeds’ from the kickbacks, one agent declared in an affidavit years later.”

That the deal was consummated implicates Barack Obama in Russian collusion, of course, since he was the president and presumably had to know about it. He approved not only the Uranium One deal but another decision in 2011 that gave Rosatom the ability to sell uranium to U.S. nuclear power plants. Then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is also implicated, since she was part of a commission that signed off on the deal and her Clinton Foundation had received donations from “interested parties.”

But who else in Washington would be implicated? Well, who headed the FBI back in 2010? None other than Robert Mueller — the man who is now the special counsel investigating possible Russian interference in the 2016 election.  As PJ Media points out, Mueller’s FBI kept the investigation almost totally quiet, even though the investigation dragged on for four more years. The investigation is only coming out now — well after all the principals are out of office. Well, not quite all the principals. See, Robert Mueller’s FBI saw perhaps one of the biggest instances of illegal Russian interference in the United States and he stayed mum for years. He’s now been put in charge of… investigating illegal Russian interference in the United States.

Do you see how this could perhaps be a problem?

Whether or not Robert Mueller should have sat on what he knew about Russia’s attempt to bribe their way into our uranium supply is a matter that will no doubt be questioned endlessly. For all we know, Mueller made the right decision.  What isn’t in question is the fact that this man has a massive conflict of interest — and almost certainly shouldn’t be conducting the current investigation.
