Despite having some of the nation’s strictest gun control laws, the city of Chicago nevertheless suffers from one of the highest rates of gun crime.

According to WGN-TV, a shooting incident was captured on video when the victim was shot while livestreaming an argument on Facebook.  The shooting occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon on South Calumet in the Parkway Gardens projects. The victim, who was shot in the arm, was arguing with another woman inside a vehicle. You can see the local news report and edited video of the shooting courtesy of WFLD:

According to the Chicago Tribune, the 27-year-old victim was transported to Stroger Hospital where her condition was stabilized.  Police have obtained the Facebook video which captured the incident and was subsequently spread on social media, and reportedly are in a “good position in the investigation.”

“At this point we have no reason to suspect the video is not authentic,” chief police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi stated. “The victim in this case knows the offender and we are working to locate.”

The police also noted that they had identified the suspect in the shooting by Tuesday evening, but the suspect still remained at-large.  “What I can say is we believe this to be a domestic related incident between two individuals that know each other,” said Guglielmi, who added, “We do not believe there is any threat to the public as this stemmed from an earlier interaction between the two of them.”

According to WBBM, the suspect has now been publicly identified as 29-year-old Labritney Austin, who turned herself into police early Wednesday evening. She has been charged with a single felony count of aggravated battery involving the discharge of a firearm, and is expected to appear for a bond hearing in court on Friday.

No matter how liberals may spin the statistics and narratives regarding crime in Chicago, there is little question that it is simply out of control.

President Donald Trump has previously warned the city that he will have to get the feds involved if they can’t get things under control themseles, but obviously it would be far more preferable for the city to take the initiative and clean up its own act instead of standing aside for the federal government to do it for them.
